Cat Tien National Park is a remarkable area of lowland tropical rainforest, known for its exceptional biodiversity. Covering an area of 72,000 hectares, the park is considered one of Vietnam's most valuable natural treasures. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including hiking, mountain biking, and bird watching, all of which are among the best in the southern region of the country. The park boasts an impressive array of fauna, including over 100 mammal species, 79 reptile species, 41 amphibian species, and more than 400 butterfly species, making it a haven for nature lovers. Rare bird species include the orange-necked partridge and the Siamese fireback. UNESCO recognized the park's value by adding it to its list of biosphere reserves in 2001.
Day 1: Ecological Trail & Night Safari Part 1: Ecological Trail Upon arrival at the Park Headquarters, visitors will cross the river and meet their guide before embarking on a journey to discover the stunning natural beauty of the area. The trek takes visitors northwards, through the jungle, and up to the 500-year-old Tung tree. The guide will lead visitors along a small path, through the hidden beauty of many massive perennial plants such as Lagerstroemia Ovalfolia (Bang Lang), Tetrameles nudiflora (Tung), Ancistrolandus tectorius (Trung Quan), and Afzelia cyclocarpa (Go). The trail also includes a stop in the wild gibbon area, where early morning sightings of these primates are common. Final checkpoints include the botanical garden and the Heaven's Rapids (Thac Troi).
At midday, visitors will check-in to Green Hope Lodge and have lunch before setting off on a 2-3 hour trek with a local guide. The day ends with an opportunity to rest.
Part 2: Night Safari Most wildlife in Cat Tien National Park is most active at night, and the jungle truly comes alive with activity after dusk. The best way to see nocturnal animals in their natural habitat is to be near their food and water sources. Night spotlighting is, therefore, the most effective and convenient way to observe animals. Visitors will head to the Park HQ to begin their night animal spotlighting adventure before returning to Green Hope Lodge for a hearty Vietnamese dinner.
Day 2: Crocodile Lake , a UNESCO-designated world biosphere reserve, is the park's focal point and home to two critically endangered reptile species, the Siamese Crocodile and the Andaman Water Monitor. If visitors are lucky, they might see wild gaurs, a critically endangered mammal species once thought to be extinct after the Vietnam War. A group of 30 wild gaurs still live in Cat Tien forest. The day begins with breakfast at Green Hope Lodge before meeting the guide at the HQ to embark on a 9 km jeep ride and 5 km hike to the lake. The day ends with lunch back at the lodge.
